简析V-ing在高中英语教学中的运用

自从小学接触英语开始,我们就见过V-ing的形式,那时只听老师说V-ing叫动名词或者叫现在分词,我们似懂非懂;到初中时,我们见到的V-ing形式稍微多些,对动名词和现在分词的印象加深了许多,然而,那都是皮毛;真正谈到V-ing的运用及区别,当然在高中。只有在高中阶段,我们才对V-ing进行全面的分析和总结,对动名词和现在分词的印象进一步加深,而其中有些专有名词的称谓是我们很少听过的,如悬垂分词、独立主格结构等;它们在词性、用法和语用功能上依然让我们困惑,甚至直到高中毕业时都依然感觉茫然。为了使同学们在高中学习阶段不再对V-ing感到困惑,下面我就对V-ing的词性、用法及语用功能作一个全面的梳理和总结。

一、动名词概说

简言之,V-ing在句子中充当名词,可在句子当中充当主语、宾语、表语等成分,举例如下。

1.做主语。

Smoking may cause cancer.

V-ing+名词swimming pool,sleeping bag

名词+V-ing weight lifting,sight seeing

形容词=V-ing physical training,close-planting

6.做专有名词。

boating,dancing(不可数)

painting,feeling(可数)

savings,findings(复数)

二、现在分词概说

现在分词属于非谓语动词的一种(其他种类以不定式及过去分词形式出现)。V-ing(现在分词)在句子中充当动词、形容词的功能,在句子当中可充当谓语、宾语、宾语补足语、表语、状语、定语等成分,而以作定语最难理解。在最近几年的高考题当中,V-ing(现在分词)做宾语补足语、状语和定语是考查的重点,举例如下。

1.构成谓语。

He has been doing his homework all the morning.

A.was painting?摇?摇?摇?摇?摇?摇B.will be painting

2.构成不定式的进行时。

He seems to be worrying about something.

3.做复合宾语。

4.做宾语补足语。

5.做表语(类似于形容词)。

That book was rather boring.

6.属于非谓语动词,做状语。

Reading my newspaper,I heard the doorbell ring.(时间状语)

Having found a hotel,they began to look for a restaurant.(时间状语,表明动作发生有时间先后,前一动作先于后一动作)

Opening the drawer,he took out a box.(伴随状语)

Being a student,he was naturally interested in museums.(原因状语)

They opened fire,killing one of our team members.(结果状语)

If(you are) travelling north,you must go there by train.(条件状语)

He turned around from time to time as if searching for someone.(目的状语)

注:独立主格结构做状语,所谓独立主格结构,就是前后有两句话,中间用逗号隔开,前后两句话分别有各自的逻辑主语,前一句(或后一句)用V-ing(非谓语动词)造句在独立主格结构中做状语,而后一句是完整的句子。

It being a holiday(=As it was a holiday),all the shops are shut.(独立主格结构)

注:悬垂分词做状语,所谓悬垂分词,也叫独立成分,说明说话人的看法,其形式的选择不受上下文的影响。

Generally speaking,he is a good man.(悬垂分词)

Generally speaking,he is a good man.(悬垂分词)(非谓语动词,前后两句话,主语相同,在前一句中主语省略,knowing动作由后面的主语we发出,表示主动。)
