Butterflies are so exquisitely beautiful in all their hues, that it delights us when we see them hovering happily in the garden or flying alongside us as we cross that pavement.

Love is like a butterfly. It goes where it pleases and it pleases where it goes.

Going from one dinner party or ball to another, the social butterfly is preoccupied with being the height of fashion and popularity.

Betty was a social butterfly, who had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to have a good time and make people laugh. These qualities were key to her successful career in food service.

Are you a social butterfly, or do you prefer being at the edge of a group of friends?

butterfly的第四个象征意义是fragility(脆弱)和vulnerability(易损)。例如:

The wings of a butterfly are very delicate.

英语习语to break a butterfly on the wheel的字面意思是“用车轮碾碎蝴蝶”,其比喻意义是to put massive effort into achieving sth. minor or unimportant或to waste effort on sth. that there is no chance of succeeding,即“花大气力做鸡毛蒜皮的事”或“在没有把握取得成功的事情上浪费力气”。

He keeps trying to get the work done, but I think he is just trying to break a butterfly on the wheel.

She doesn't seem like a butterfly case at first sight.

英语习语 to have / get butterflies(in one's stomach)的字面意思是“胃里有蝴蝶”,比喻意义是to feel very nervous, usually about something you are going to do,即“感到紧张”。例如:

The student is always getting butterflies before an exam.
